DRPT is by necessity an agency that works closely with others to accomplish common goals. Cooperation is essential to our success. Our wide-ranging activities involve public and private parties at the local, regional, state and federal levels, including:

• Transportation providers – ranging from small bus companies, commuter assistance programs, and startup businesses to major freight railroads and interstate transportation services.
• Other state agencies – together with the Virginia Department of Transportation, the Virginia Ports Authority and others, we ensure that Virginia has a balanced transportation system utilizing all modes of transportation.
• Metropolitan Planning Organizations - MPO's play a key role in defining local transportation needs.
• Government officials – we promote and negotiate key programs at all levels of government, from local to federal.

DRPT and its partners are often working toward the same goal, but reaching it requires listening, compromise, support and follow-through – skills that are all well established within DRPT.
