During the 2011 Session, the Virginia General Assembly passed Senate Joint Resolution 297 (SJ297), which instructed DRPT to conduct a study of public transportation in the Commonwealth with a focus on providing recommendations on ways to maximize the Commonwealth’s transit investment. With a focus on performance, prioritization, stability and allocation, the goal is to develop proposed changes to the Code of Virginia in order to maximize benefits to public transportation, as well as to establish an efficient funding allocation process.
An interim report was sent to the General Assembly at the start of the 2012 Session. A working group, comprised of representatives from transit operators, TDM agencies and MPOs across the state, has been formed to work closely with DRPT as the study advances. Their first meeting was held on June 16 and second meeting was held on August 3, a third meeting was held on September 14 at DRPT headquarters. The Committee meetings are open to the public. Meetings will begin with an open comment period. Members of the public will then be allowed to stay and observe the remainder of the meeting.
The links on the right contain meeting documents as well as the contact information of each member of the committee. Following the completion of a draft report, an open public comment period on the draft will be held.
