This section plays an integral role in helping to plan the future of rail and public transportation in Virginia. It is responsible for the following functions:
Working with the Secretary of Transportation’s office and other transportation agencies to continue efforts of the
VTrans 2025 Technical Committee. VTrans 2025
is a key report published by the Secretary of Transportation in
2004 that assesses the current status and future needs for transportation in Virginia up to the year 2025.
Participating in the planning process within the Hampton Roads Urbanized Area (the peninsula and southside) and coordinating public
transportation planning for all areas of the Commonwealth in cooperation with the urban and rural management sections of DRPT.
Collecting data and presenting reports on public transportation operations on behalf of the Commonwealth.
Managing, directing, and participating in special rail and public transportation projects. This includes reporting on DRPT’s behalf to the
General Assembly, as well as study and planning task forces.
