Draft FY2012 - 2017 SYIP available - DRPT and VDOT presented the draft SYIP for fiscal years 2012 - 2017 at the April 20 Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) meeting. The program includes funding for rail, transit, transportation demand management (TDM) and highway projects over the next six years. Public hearings will be held in Hampton Roads on April 27, in Northern Virginia on May 4, in Salem on May 12 and in Richmond on May 18 to gain public feedback on the draft program. Virginia will soon offer Telework Tax Credits - The Governor recently signed legislation that provides a tax credit for Virginia employers who allow employees to telework. Rockbridge County bus system begins service - The Maury Express, operated by RADAR, started its six-day-a-week service from Buena Vista through Lexington in early March. The fixed-route bus system will help increase mobility within the County and provide citizens with another transportation option. READ MORE >>

Governor's Transportation Package signed into law - The $4 billion package provides transportation funding over the next three years using a variety of bonds, loans, and funds identified in a government audit. Nine hundred transit, rail and road projects were identified as potential projects for the investment. The Intercity Passenger Rail Operating and Capital Fund was also established as part of the package. READ MORE >>

DRPT submits Richmond/Hampton Roads EIS to the FRA for ROD - DRPT's study team has submitted the final Tier 1 Environmental Impact Statement to the FRA for review and a possible Record of Decision (ROD) for the Richmond/Hampton Roads Passenger Rail Project. The ROD will determine the route eligible for federal funding and the next steps in the federal review process. READ MORE >>

Bus linking Roanoke to Lynchburg's Amtrak station advances - The General Assembly and Governor McDonnell recently approved a budget amendment to provide funding for the service which will connect Roanoke with Lynchburg's Kemper St. station by bus for one year. While complete service details are yet to be determined, the thru-way connecting bus service will provide added connectivity to existing Amtrak Virginia service. READ MORE >>
