Virginia Receives $45.5 Million Federal High Speed Rail GrantVirginia has been named a recipient of $45.5 million in federal high speed rail funds through the High Speed Intercity Passenger Rail Grant Program that will incrementally advance the completion of rail projects to support high speed intercity passenger rail along the I-95 Corridor.
The investment will support a Tier II Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) which will complete the next phase of federal project planning for high speed rail between Richmond and Washington, D.C. Once completed, this project will bring the Southeast High Speed Rail Corridor segments between Washington, D.C. and Richmond, VA and Richmond, VA to Raleigh, NC, to a Tier II EIS Status.
The grant will also advance engineering for a new bridge over the Appomattox River in Chesterfield County and the City of Petersburg, which is currently a major bottleneck for rail traffic and on the Southeast High Speed Rail Corridor. READ MORE >>
