FREDERICKSBURGAt approximately 9 a.m. on Friday, May 15, Lansdowne Road will temporarily close to through traffic at the CSX rail crossing.  The crossing will remain closed until approximately 3 p.m. on Monday,
May 18.

CSX crews will be upgrading the rail crossing located off of Mine Road between Park Drive and Route 2.  The work will include the realignment of one of the three tracks which will provide motorists with a smoother riding surface when crossing the tracks.

This rail capacity enhancement project is a partnering effort between CSX, the Virginia Department of Rail and Transportation (DRPT) and the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to improve freight, passenger and VRE commuter rail service in the corridor.

According to a recent traffic count conducted by VDOT, nearly 7,200 vehicles per day use the crossing. During the closing motorists should use Route 2 to access businesses located on the southern side of the crossing or use Mine Road or Lee Drive to access businesses on the northern side of the crossing.  VDOT has installed signs along the designated detour route so that motorists can easily travel around the work zone.
The detour is as follows:

From Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway)
Follow Mine Road (Route 636) to Benchmark Road (Route 608) – make a left
Follow detour to Route 2 (Tidewater Trail) – make a left
Follow detour to Lansdowne Road (Route 638) – make a left

From Route 2 (Tidewater Trail)
Follow detour to Benchmark Road (Route 608) – make a right
Follow detour to Mine Road (Route 636) make a right
Follow detour to Lansdowne Road (Route 638) – make a right.

The crossing will remain closed over the weekend.
