VRE Cherry Hill Station and Third Track

Virginia Railway Express (VRE) provides commuter rail service from the Northern Virginia suburbs to Alexandria, Crystal City and downtown Washington, D.C.

VRE provides, on average, more than 14,000 passenger trips per month and with the increasing demand for transportation choices in the region, DRPT is partnering with VRE to fund the evaluation of potential enhancements to improve VRE service.

Studies are currently underway to evaluate potential improvements to the Fredericksburg VRE line, including the following:

  • Construction of a third track in the CSX right-of-way
  • Design and construction of a new VRE station and slope stabilization at Cherry Hill
  • A public commuter parking structure to serve the new Cherry Hill station
  • A new highway grade separation over the CSX line

This multi-phased corridor improvement project could potentially improve rail service and increase passenger rail capacity in Northern Virginia.

This analysis is being conducted by Virginia Railway Express. For additional information on the status of this initiative, contact Mark Roeber at VRE at mroeber@vre.org or 703-838-5430.
